Aghia Efimia

If you continue along the east coast road from Sami for around 9 KM (6 miles approximately) you come to the small resort of Aghia Efimia, with its attractive small harbour. The beaches in this area are of large white pebbles, and there are numerous small coves along the roadside on the way from Sami. The most well known is "paradise beach", there is a small taverna- the dendrinos nearby, but if you want your "own" beach you are probably best choosing one of the other coves. We snorkled in the water here which was exceptionally clear and saw plenty of fish.

During the summer season there are two buses daily to Sami and Fiscardo timed to allow you to spend the whole day in either. There are buses to assos twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.

The village has a number of cafe bars and tavernas mostly situated around the quayside. There are a number of small shops and two well stocked mini markets, as well as the village bakery.Aghia Efimia offers the visitor a variety of accommodation, including small hotels. The Hotel Boulevard Pyllaros is situated in the centre of the resort, with the beach just seven meters in front of the hotel. The hotel also hire's out motor boats offering you the opportunity to find your own private beach or cove for the day.

The resort is a good place for exploring the island if you intend to hire a car.Argostoli can be reached by car in just over an hour and Fiscardo and Assos are only around 20 minutes drive away. Aghia Efimia attracts lots of flotilla yachts and watching these from the harbour side tavernas adds to the charm of the resort. The resort is suitable for couples, singles and older or less mobile visitors to kefalonia. as its much flatter than Skala or Lourdas.

There is an excellent BSAC Diving School in Aghia Efimia, which operates a number of diving trips each day throughout the season. It caters for both beginners and experienced certified divers. It cost us around £30.00 for an hours dive off the boat, including the hire of all equipment. This was my first dive over 10 metres and was excellent, loads of fish, sea slugs, and eels.

Aquatic world has a website and email address so you can contact them to arrange a dive before you go.

Aghia Efimia has a number of good tavernas/restaurants. To Steki, makis's and Finakas are in our oppinion all worth a visit.
